For students at Trier University of Applied Sciences from March 1 and for students at Trier University from April 1

  • Who do I contact with questions about the Deutschlandsemesterticket?

    By e-mail to: chipticket@studierendenwerk-trier.de

Semester ticket becomes Deutschlandticket semester ticket:

Trier University of Applied Sciences students from March 1

Students at Trier University from April 1

In contrast to the previous semester ticket, the student ID card is no longer valid as a ticket, but a digital ticket is required and the identity card as a document for verification at a ticket inspection. Students of Trier universities must register online in the Portazon app of Stadtwerke Trier to receive the digital ticket via smartphone. Click here for the Portazon app:

We have also provided a "step-by-step" guide to registration (Trier University of Applied Sciences from March 1 / Trier University from April 1) with this link:

Students at the Trier University of Applied Sciences have already received their personal access code. Students at Trier University will receive the code at the end of March from the Studierendenwerk Trier by e-mail.

With the Germany semester ticket, the regional Trier semester ticket loses its validity, which means that the student ID card is no longer valid as a ticket; only the digital ticket in the Portazon app (Android / iOS) will allow students at Trier University of Applied Sciences to travel on all local and regional transport between the North Sea coast and the Alps from March 1 and students at Trier University from April 1.

The validity period covers the entire duration of the summer semester for students at Trier University of Applied Sciences (1.03.2024 to 31.08.2024) and Trier University (01.04.2024 to 30.09.2024).

The validity includes all local public transport throughout Germany (2nd class), i.e. all regular buses, local trains, suburban and subway trains and streetcars. The ticket is not valid on long-distance trains such as Intercity or ICE trains. It is only issued to you personally in the Portazon app. In the event of an inspection, you will also need to show your ID card as further proof of identity.

After registration at Portazon-App the QRCode is valid as Deutschlandsemesterticket for summer semester 2024 in addition to your personal identity card.

The QRCode is valid only in summer semester 2024 and ends automatically.

  • All students of the Trier Universities (at the location Trier) are obliged to the financing of the semester ticket with a payment per semester, which will be collected in addition to the social contribution (Sozialbeitrag).
Thus, at registration and re-registration the Deutschlandsemester ticket is included in the price.

In summer semester 2024 semesterticket is also valid as Deutschlandsemesterticket for 29,40 euros each month, i.e. 176,40 for six months and by this 40 per cent cheaper than normal price.

In some sparsely populated parts of the VRT network, RufBuses now run on around 60 RufBus routes. Like all other buses, they follow fixed routes and travel to fixed stops. The most important difference: if you want to use them, you must book your journey at least 60 minutes in advance. Only then will the RufBus in the form of a normal bus, minibus or taxi travel to the desired stop. The journeys are always free of charge.

The RufBus sign with a telephone receiver on the bus stop sign and behind the windscreen of the vehicle is important.

Bookings for up to 8 people can be made in the timetable information, in the VRT app or by telephone. For 9 or more people, bookings must be made by telephone at least 24 hours in advance.

    Phone Monday to Friday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.: 0651 / 999 878 99

Important: To avoid not necessary journeys of the RufBus, please cancel if you cannot or do not want to use the booked journey any more. To do this, either click on the cancellation link in the booking confirmation or cancel by telephone.

  • In the busses of the Stadtwerke Trier (moving only in Trier) you can take your bike without extra cost.

The other companies of the VRT (Verkehrsregion Trier) demand a "EinzelTicket Fahrrad" for your bicycle by travelling Mo - Fr before 9 am.

Buggies and wheelchairs always have priority (decision of the busdriver).

Note: Every transport network has its own rules. Please inform yourself.

  •
Local public transport is free of charge if:

    • Bus journeys carried out on behalf of AVL, RGTR or TICE. If the destination is in Germany, this part has to be paid.

How long is the Deutschlandsemesterticket valid for?

The validity period covers the entire duration of the summer semester for students at Trier University of Applied Sciences (1.03.2024 to 31.08.2024) and Trier University (01.04.2024 to 30.09.2024).The validity includes all local public transport throughout Germany (2nd class), i.e. all regular buses, local trains, suburban and subway trains and streetcars. The ticket is not valid on long-distance trains such as Intercity or ICE trains. What do I do if I don't have a cell phone with me or the battery is empty?

Then you don't have a valid ticket and risk paying a higher fare, as only the proof in the app is valid. With the Germany semester ticket, the regional Trier semester ticket also loses its validity, which means that the student ID is no longer valid as a ticket.

Does the ticket also work offline?

You can download the ticket to your smartphone in the Portazon app under "Services" > "Mobility" > "Public transport tickets" via the three-dot menu directly on your QR code or request an email to receive the ticket again by email.

    What about bicycle transportation?

The Deutschlandsemesterticket itself does not provide for free bicycle transport. The usual public transport rules still apply. Bicycle transport is free of charge in the Verkehrsverbund Region Trier

and therefore generally free of charge on city buses. Only on Mondays to Fridays before 9 a.m. is it necessary to buy a reduced one-way ticket to take your bike with you.

What applies to journeys to Luxembourg and Belgium?

The Germany semester ticket is also valid on the train route to Luxembourg. Also on CFL trains, as these operate for DB in Germany.Buses on Luxembourg's RGTR lines (301, 302, 306, etc.) that travel in Germany operate for the country of Luxembourg and are independent of German federal legislation. Therefore, the German semester ticket does not apply here. The Luxembourg RegioZone fare applies to tickets on RGTR buses. However, the Deutschlandsemesterticket is valid on buses of the cross-border VRT bus lines (410, 455, 460). You can also travel on line 465 beyond "Steinebrück, Zoll" to St. Vith in Belgium with the Deutschlandsemesterticket without having to buy an additional one-way ticket.
